Where’s Your Niche?

A few weeks ago Heather visited and whipped up this amazing meal… in MY kitchen.  She made pasole and it was delicious, some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever eaten.

The best part was girl just took charge and I quickly became her sous chef… which was just fine with me.  I mean how often does someone come to you house and cook a fabulous meal and you just sit back and enjoy?

I knew Heather was a great cook, however seeing her in action was so fun.  When Heather’s cooking she’s in her element.  She’s comfortable, in charge, and smiling.

Just wondering, in what situation are you in your “element”?

Responses

  1. i’m starting my third year of college soon. i’m in my element sitting at my desk, doing my homework. (not common, i’m sure ;) ) but that is when i feel the best. my room may be a disaster and i haven’t eaten more than ice cream and cereal for three weeks, but as long as i can type, write or file something, my heart is happy :)

  2. Encouraging people who are down. I love to help someone see the light at the end of the tunnel. It comes very naturally and it happens with strangers, friends, family…doesn’t really matter.

  3. I am in my element when I am with children. I llove working with toddlers. I used to work at Gymboree Play and Music and I don’t mean to brag but I was the best teacher, my classes were always full. I think it is because God gave me this talent and I am not afraid to use it.

  4. That looks so good! My “zone” is probably when I am helping close friends or when we are in a strategy conversation at work.

  5. Encouraging people. That’s my thang.

Oh, and I think I might enjoy doing some culinary damage with Heather. I love to make Mexican food as well. Course mine is more of a south Texas type, but still incredibly good :)

  6. I’m not sure what my element is, but I can tell you what it isn’t … the kitchen! I would have been sitting at the counter telling you what a GREAT job you both were doing as you encouraged me to have a glass of wine and just watch. :)

I’ve always wanted to be a good cook… I just learned how to be a good orderer instead.

  7. I’m a natuarl born accountancy geek. Give me some messed up figures or a bank account or spreadsheet that doesn’t add up and I’ll give you back order.

I used to work with kids though and liked that too. Kids don’t tend to over-think stuff too much and that’s an awesome world to be part of for a few hours a day.

  8. Behind the scenes planning a party. I like being part of the crew rather then the star.

  9. Great post. Probably creative/strategic environments. I love the idea of doing something that has never been done or building something that should never be built.

  10. Unfortunately, NOT the kitchen! I would probably say encouraging friends through bible study. The young ladies last week asked if my occupation is in counseling/teaching. Um, no, but I’ll give you some free advice anyway!

  11. I’m still trying to figure that one out- seriously! :) Looks like a fun time, though.

  12. Cooking, babysitting :) hanging with friends and being in my store! Those are a few things I can rock :)

  13. I think my zone is being surrounded by a ton of kids and animals….I love the chaos and unpredictability of it all.

And oh man……*that* food looks amazing! Any chance that you’ll be sharing that recipe? Or is it one of those “if I tell you, I’ll have to kill you” kinda recipe secrets?

  14. My strength is in organizing…I love making lists and figuring out a process for getting something done.

  15. Yum, that looks good! H :)

  16. My element seems to be crisis management. I don’t like it but somehow I seem to aquired a knack for it.

  17. Definitely in my element with a house full of family and friends. Also completely in my element creating things (doesn’t really matter what as long as its a challenge)…

  18. That looks so, so yummy! I want the recipes! My element has to be either organizing, creating order in situations or working with kids.

  19. Babies/ kids :)
