Our Extended Family…

I’ve really come to love Compassion International.

You know why… they gave us the opportunity to serve out of love as a family unit.  The ability to sponsor a child on the other side of the world.  For us it’s truly a family affair.  We write the letters together, pick out special treats to stick in his envelopes together, pray for him together, sit and read the letters together.

We’re serving God through our love of Sammie.  My small children are already thinking about how they can reach out and change someone’s life.  No, they don’t totally grasp that they’re changing his life and they’re blessed to not really understand true poverty… but they’re also aware that there are people out there we are called to help.

This is the most recent letter from Sammie…

Call me weepy… but each time I find one of these letters in our mailbox I automatically get teary.  Sitting in a circle reading the letter as a family pushes the tears right down my cheeks.  I love having another child in our family, a child we can nurture, a child we can lift up in prayer, a child we can provide an education and nutrition, a child who will hear about Jesus, a child whose life is forever changed.

Click the button below and see how precious these children are.  Take a step and share your blessings.

  1. Evaline is in Tanzania…. I just recently sponsored her and so I haven’t got a letter yet (I’ve sent email and letters though!) I am looking forward to getting something and sharing it with my two daughters.

  2. Until recently, I sponsored a wee boy from Kenya through Plan. They pulled out of the village a while back though (unfortunately without giving me the chance to write a ‘goodbye’ letter).

Pete and the others trip gave me the kick up the behind to sponsor another child so I just signed up to hopefully sponsor one of the unsponsored kids in Calcutta.

I hijacked Pete’s blog with this url and hope you don’t mind if I do the same on your – it took me a while to find this out – If you live in the UK, the address you need is http://www.compassionuk.org/site/pages/ui_home.aspx and the cost is £21 per month

  3. Maria in Mexico!

  4. Lorrany in Brazil. I’m with you, Brandi, every letter we get brings me to tears. I love that little girl so much… Praying for the Compassion trip and for you this morning, too. The spouses and families are as much of the trip as the ones who are actually there. Thank you!

  5. We sponsor Sofia in Uganda. She is 7 yrs old. We got our 1st picture of her in a beautiful yellow dress a couple of weeks ago…I thought the letters did me in, but this picture took my heart.

Praying for the entire team today!
    Hugs,
    Fran

  6. Mwajuma in Tanzania. She is 10 years old. We’ve been sponsoring her a little over a year.

  7. I just began sponsoring William in Kolkata, India. The Lord used Pete, Angie and Melissa to inspire me to do so!

  8. I sponsored Deva in India this week. Can’t wait to get started writing letters, etc.

  9. Kaushkia is my new little girl’s name! We just started sponsoring her yesterday. I can’t wait to get our packet of information and start giving and receiving letters filled with love and hope. This is awesome!

PS – What an adorable picture of you and your boys!

  10. @alyssa, @lindsey, @becca, and @carolyn so glad you all have chosen to sponsor a child, you’ll never regret it!

@carolyn thanks for changing the url didn’t realize it would be different in the UK.

  11. I started sponsoring a little boy named moses 4 years ago when I was at a summer youth church camp- it has been such a joy to get to know and see this sweet boy grow up! He was 3 when I started sponsoring him, and just now by comparing his pictures I can see first hand that he is much healthier and happier than he was 4 years ago!

It is such an awesome feeling to go to the mailbox and find a letter from Kenya! I’m with you Brandi- it makes me get teary eyes!

Oh and Brandi- or others- what small things do you put in the letters you mail? I have only sent pictures and drawings, but I would love to send more!

  12. Ajoy in India. I love his name.

  13. Vyshak KV in India. I sponsored him on Audrey’s birthday. He is the cutest little boy and I can’t wait to get my first letter from him!

  14. Meseret in Ethiopia :)

  15. so excited that we decided to sponser two children tonight – a boy and a girl that my children can share in giving to them as they grow. God laid it on our hearts and I feel so honored to be able to give such a priceless gift to His Glory.

  16. We just sponsored Jaiprakash, a nine-year old boy from India. I can’t wait to get our packet so I can correspond with him. I found out about Compassion through your website, Angie’s website, and Beth Moore’s website. Because of you all many, many children will have a chance at a better life. God bless you all.

  17. We began sponsoring Michelda in Haiti when I was pregnant with our son 5 years ago.

  18. I adopted a little girl named Angela from Guatemala for my sister and her husband, after they lost their daughter named Angela.
My sister has adopted a little boy named Win, from the Philippines for our brother, so he now has the ‘boy’ he never thought he’d have:)
My brother adopted a child for me through another organization, but that will change soon becuase of this Compassion trip by your husband and his great team!
And our oldest grandsons Dad and his family adopted a little girl, Sisca, just yesterday from India, after reading Angie’s story about their boy. They were very thankful to find a little girl with the same birth date as their youngest sons.
Hope to continue to help these little ones and watch them grow up knowing Jesus and their extended families love them very much.
    Blessings today and always,
    Kaye
    Matthew 21:22

  19. Ingrid in Ecuador

  20. After thinking about it for months (thanks to you and Pete), my husband and I finally chose to sponsor a child yesterday. Her name is Bikki and I’m already in love as I look at her picture and pray for her. Thanks so much for reminding us to spread the love!

  21. Kenia from El Salvador- I just sponsored her and can’t wait to get my packet!

  22. Alex in El Salvador, and like you, I cry everytime I get his letters :) They’re precious!

  23. I announced to my husband Keith that we now have five children…. =)

After we talked about it with the kids last night at supper, my daughter Natalie asked if she really had another sister. I told her yes we would be her second family, but she would still live in India with her real Mommy and Daddy. She said, so I can tell my friends that we have another sister in God’s way… I smiled and replied, yes…in God’s perfect way. I love them and hope to use this to teach them about how we can always be giving and reaching out to those in need.

I’ve been thinking about you since Pete has left. Hope you all are doing well!

  24. Do you have any good suggestions of activities you do with your kids to help them understand your little sponsored boy? We have three boys of our own (5,3,1) and a compassion boy from africa. I’d love to make it more “real” for them. Thoughts?

    Emily

  25. We actually sponsor two children—-one from India named Aasish and another from Nicaragua–Lucia. It is such a blessing when we get a letter from either of them.

  26. Rosny in the Phillipines. One look at her sweet face was all it took for Ken and I to choose her. We’ve only received one letter, but I hope we’ll get another one soon!

  27. This is ummm a few months late but I don’t care.

We have a little girl in India. We received our second letter from her on Saturday at the end of date night. Talk about making a great night even better. After we read it I immediately put it on the fridge. Look at it every day. The best part was she told us to say hi to our dogs. I promptly bent down and gave them pets from our precious Nikita in India. We don’t have children of our own yet but we have Nikita and as far as I’m concerned she’s my adopted daughter in another country.
