The Weather Outside Is Frightful!

I’m not a fan of cold weather.  Let me repeat…. I do not like cold weather.  It hit 40 degrees last night in Nashville and was plum frigid.

I would be perfectly happy hibernating until flowers start budding again… or permanently moving to a tropical climate.  But since my family chooses to reside in Nashville, I guess I’ll have to tough out yet another bone-chilling winter (insert laugh from my Wisconsin friend who says Nashville DOESN’T experience real winter).

However, I’m starting to feel like there might be some hope for this winter… enter the slanket.

2

It’s the “best blanket ever”!  Just makes me warm thinking about being cozied up on the couch with the slanket.  I was introduced to the slanket via blog surfing, but can’t remember quite where I saw it, but do remember immediately thinking this would be the perfect gift for a cold-natured gal like myself!

So, it’s the newest addition to my Christmas list!

What about you, cold-natured or warm-blooded?

  1. I hate being either to hot or too cold. I like the happy medium. You know the type of weather Nashville gets to see for 2 weeks in the spring and 2 weeks in the fall.

Saw this on QVC or something and really wanted it. I had to refrain from impulse buying. I never get sucked into one of those programs but this blanket almost got me. It wasn’t expensive either. Hilarious that you’ve seen this too.

  2. I’m with Jennifer. Hate the frigid cold, and can’t handle the stifling humidity in the summer.

I like it between 75-85 degrees.

WHere can I get the “SLanket”?
I’m putting it on my CHristmas wish list!

  3. Oooohhh… I like this – I want one :) I am cold all the time. My husband bought me some slippers last Christmas that are made from duck – they are the best!!

  4. I love that…I am always cold..Heath is not so much! I totally want to get one for Christmas this year!

  5. I am laughing my little heart out. Slanket sounds super goofy, but I am sure it is just heavenly! Kind of sounds like one of those television infomercial products.

I am at the opposite end of the spectrum. I can’t stand HOT, humid weather. AKA the semi-year round climate here in Houston. I love when the weather hits 40 degrees. Too bad it just rained last night so it’s more of a slippery kind of day here in Kingwood. The thing about cold weather is that you can always put more layers on! What do you do when it’s hot? I feel like it would be a bit inappropriate to take more layers off…

    Have a good day!

  6. Usually I’m pretty hot. However, in weather like what we are having (maybe a little warmer here in Central Arkansas than there in Nashville), I do like to open the windows, put on sweats, make hot chocolate, and snuggle under a quilt.

  7. All I want for Christmas is…a Slanket!!!! Love it!

I’m from the deep south and long for snow!!!!
When the temps drop here in the ATL I get just giddy! I wear a scarf around the house and have a fire every night.
Wrap up in a blanket and read all afternoon on Sunday!
When I go out I have to have 2 things, my trusty scarf and Starbucks. I am compelled to make pots of soup and trays of chocolate chip cookies…
This has become problematic since it’s just Mike and I at home now!
Cold brings me a few of my favorite things…
Can you tell, I love this question!?

  8. I love summer! I dread winter. I love the way the snow looks however I would be prefectly content if I didn’t have to get out in it, Just stay inside curl up with a book & some chili.

  9. I am hot natured, but still thinking of moving to Robin’s for the winter.

I had a Burger King sleeping bag that velcroed to make something just like that slanket. It was so great for watching Saturday morning cartoons in Daddy’s chair. You’re going to love that slanket.

  10. Hot Natured – and it is only getting worse with perimenopause. ;)

  11. You would think that since i am from wisconsin I would think the winter is mild here… but last year when it got so cold here i really thought about moving even farther south!!! I need that slanket too!!!

  12. After living on Lake Erie for the first 18 years of my life I am ready to move to a warmer climate but since Jay’s family is here, Nashville will do. I do have to admit though that the weather here is much much more milder than Lake Erie weather. At least we don’t have blizzards and 10′ drifts here!!!!

  13. I hate hate hate winter for that reason. I am always cold. I grew up way farther north than Alabama but have been here long enough to become a huge baby about even our little bit of cold. If it could be those 100 degree July days all the time, I’d be fine with it. I am seriously the only person you never hear complain about Alabama’s humidity!!

  14. I’m cold-natured but with a warm heart. lol

  15. When I saw the commercial I stopped in my tracks!! GENIOUS!!! You mean, I don’t have to uncover my shoulder to use my hands? :) I’m a women who HAS to have a blanket during those not-so-often times I get to relax on the couch. And I’m not a season snob either! Hot or cold, I need a blanket. This is definitely going on my Christmas list too!

  16. We have cuddle blankets all over the house so I guess you could say I’m cold natured. (We even have back-up cuddle blankets in case our regular ones are being washed.)

  17. cold, for sure! waiting for the hot coffee to brew on this chilly tuesday morning…

  18. I was born and raised in No. Cal where it is always ‘nice’. When I moved to Iowa, I HATED the summer! It was too stickin’ hot! However, as I have come to know God, I have learned to love and appreciate every season. Fall and Winter are still my favorites, though.

I am in agreement with your Wisconsin friend…YOU are not allowed to complain about cold! Let me just tell you….40 degrees, after a long cold winter…..is like having a heat wave. People begin to, literally, wear their shorts again once it hits 40 degrees. Yea. Gotta love the Midwest. I’m not quite there yet, but 40 degree’s does signify the shedding of the jacket for a light sweater. :)

    No. I’m not kidding.

  19. Oh. My. Goodness.

I have a new item occupying the #1 position on my Christmas list.

My only dilemma is which color I should get. Do you think I could wear it in public?

  20. I was always hot. I mean crazy hot. Embarrassing hot…it didn’t take much and I was in a sweat. I lived in shorts and t-shirts. I might break out a sweat shirt with my shorts if it got really cold…like snow?? After I had surgery and lost weight….alot of weight…. I am now cold. Cold all the time. It is wonderful…I am telling you I have lived on both sides….there are only so many clothes you can take off without being arrested :) ! I love getting to wear turtle necks and coats. Sometimes I even have to take a hot bath just to warm up. It is great!

  21. Oh, I’m with you! I hate being cold. Why do I live at 8,750 feet?!? I’m so jealous of bears…eating like a pig and then going to sleep for months! What a life!;)

To make matters worse, I developed this weird stress rash after having four kids in 16 months!;) I rarely get it from stress anymore, but if my skin gets stressed (like from cold air) it flares up. So every time I go outside in the winter I end up looking like a freak for ten minutes!

  22. I was gifted this from a friend and it has been the best! I adore curling up on the couch with my slanket…it’s fleece so it’s incredibly warm and it’s huge so you feel small when you are cuddled under it.

  23. How clever. I love temps in the 60s and 70s- not much warmer or much cooler.
I just found your blog and I love it!

  24. That’s FANTASTIC!!!

And honey, when it hits 40* here in Iowa we just start thinking about putting on a sweatshirt. Some winter days have below zero highs with ice and snow… and they still don’t call off school.

I’m not kidding when I tell you that I have to take the artwork off one of my walls when winter hits because I’ve had ice chunks form between the wall and the pictures. ICE inside my house.

My dog has been known to bring me one of his doggy sweaters to put on him.

I wish I was making this stuff up. Don’t be surprised if I show up with a small suitcase and a fruity drink to vacation in your tropical paradise…

I’m thinking a slanket might go on my list too :) Hope you stay warm!!!!

  25. I am neither hot nor cold kind of gal. I want it 45 degrees at night and 65 degrees during the day with minimal rain and minimal humidity. If anyone knows where I can find that YEAR round, please let me know. Here in Germany we are having dreary weather with rain almost everyday but in the upper 50s and 60s. And it almost dark all the time (500pm until 8am) and this only the beginning. I think I might have to request a slanket and send one to my mom as well.

  26. I’m not a fan of cold either, but I live in Nebraska so COLD is just a fact of life. I don’t mind 40 too much but 10 and windy is BAD. I think the Slanket looks like a great idea! I have an electric throw blanket which makes me pretty happy! :)

  27. I hate being cold but I hate being hot even more.

An idea to keep your tootsies warm…. sew up a bag, add feed corn (some use rice), throw in the microwave for a few minutes… aaaahh! My kids loving having one in their bed on cold nights. (works well for cramps too)

  28. We have a lot in common, my friend! Let me know where you find this thing. I am ordering one for everyday of the week! I can homeschool in my slankets all winter long. Now off to see if I can get groceries delivered out here.

  29. I hate being cold. It is a good thing I live in the super hot desert. I pull the long sleeve out when it gets in the low seventies. I have a blanket on me most of the time. I’m very cold natured. My husband though is very hot natured … therefore my blanket is a constant companion.

  30. Woohoo, just want I want for our visit to Nashville, cold weather!! :)
I love the cold not Wisconsin cold but yes winter, cold days. I treasure them as I grew up with them but now that I live South Texas (God in all his humor) near the Bay, we experience the more tropical weather you would like.
Even though I am cold nature, I just love layering up, a cup of peppermint, mocha coffee, a fireplace, just so inviting. So..thats the big joke down in Houston area that they build homes with fireplaces! Don’t get to light em up that often in this tropical warm area. :)

  31. I’d like to say that I’m “freezin natured” until about May. I question if I have blood pumping through my body when I stay that cold. Its fun isn’t it?! I’m checkin out a slanket. And, I just like saying that word. :)

  32. Slanket sounds like something totally inappropriate, but looks quite comfy.

As for cold, 40 is nothing. We’ve already seen upper 20’s at night here in CT.

  33. Brandi-Pull up your big girl panties sister-we got us some SNOW on the ground here in Minnesota. My 18-month daughter is absolutely fascinated with it. Apparently she doesn’t remember that we just got rid of it in April. Yep, that’s right, it’s only been gone for six months. Your friend in Wisconsin is right, you don’t know winter! (And I’m totally jealous of you for that!)
    AJ

  34. cold-natured…why do you think I live in TX?
Like Kayla Grace, I like to wake up with the window open when it’s in the 50’s ’round here but then I am under so many quilts and comforters that I am warm and cozy. However, I DON”T like to be cold when I am sitting in my living room folding clothes and my fingers are frozen!!!

Hubs is hot-natured; while I’m under all the covers, he just has the sheet and is quite happy that way!

  35. Oh, you linked me – how sweet! :)

I LOVE the cold – can’t stand that hot, humid, nasty stuff!! I’m currently enjoying my wide selection of hats, mittens, scarves, etc. In the process of finding new, cute boots and fun jackets! Love it.

However, I hate cold houses (you can read my post tomorrow for more on that!), so the slanket would actually be quite nice – I think you may have just found me my mom’s christmas gift.

And I was laughing at your “bone-chilling” comment in reference to the Nashville “winter.” I’m anxious for some snow so that my girls can learn how to sled on something other than slippery grass as we had in Nashville. :) However, I was laughing harder at your “plum frigid” comment. Seriously, Brandi, I’ve been gone less that six months and you’ve already worked “plum” back into your vocabulary?!? Next, you’ll start saying “dag gum” like your waxy hubby. I guess it’s time for a visit soon!

  36. Oh my word, you think an overnight in the 40’s is cold?!?! HA, we had a daytime temp of 26 here the other day! We also got a nice sleet/freezing rain storm up here in WI tonight. With supposedly 2 inches of snow by morning. Not looking forward to driving in that! I just got home from work, and spent about 10 minutes scraping my car off. Ironically, I leave for Nashville on Thursday morning – so I will welcome your 40 degree nights! :)

But anyhoo, on to the question … I am definitely cold-natured. I am always freezing, trying to layer up or sit next to the fireplace. You could never tell that I grew up in WI, I’d prefer to move back to FL!! But you know what they say … cold hands, warm heart!

I might have to ask for that slanket for Christmas!

  37. Cold crisp air – love it
    Heat – not so much

  38. I hate the cold but don’t like it too hot. Around 75 is PERFECT for me.

We are having a beautiful fall here in Calgary. It was 55 here today and normally we have snow by now, but it IS cooling off.

The slanket looks awesome. I wonder what they would think if I wore that at my desk in the office!!

  39. i need to get me one of those. with no indoor heating and temps in the negative, our winters in SA are brutal!

  40. Giggling. I keep saying slanket and giggling. I cannot imagine calling and telling them I would like to buy a slanket and not burst out laughing.

I am always cold and I still want one, just have to come up with how to say it without giggling.
