I grew up listening to country music. Ya’ know how some kids are only allowed to listen to Christian music? Well, in my family I was only allowed to listen to country music. The good news is, I still LOVE country music. What a nice coincidence I ended up in Music City!
The first album I owned (via Santa Claus) was this one…
Seriously, “Mama, He’s Crazy” how could you not love that!!??
Oh, how I loved those girls! I had the “Why Not Me” album memorized. I remember standing on my bed singing into my hairbrush with their music blasting out of my stereo (my door closed, of course). When I was a child my hair had a reddish tint… therefore I believed I might be discovered at a concert as their long lost missing piece and they’d beg me to join the group… a little red-headed girl can dream.
About the same time I acquired this soundtrack (via old-school piracy which involved “dubbing” a cassette using a stereo player with two cassette decks… anyone hear me out there?)
Spent many an evening waiting for my “Johnny Castle” to show up and reenact the most goosebump-inducing dance scene in movie history with little ole’ me.
Oh, how I love the 80’s. What music were you listening to back then?

I can’t stop listening to Toby Mac…over and over.
I had a Dirty Dancing T-shirt that I thought was the coolest thing EVER…wishin’ I still had it…it would have made a fabulous voting outfit

I’m completely blank right now but I love it when “I love the 80’s” comes on VH1 bc it just seems ridiculous huh? And, not that long ago either.

Well, I’m just a little bit older than you!
I was raised IFB (Baptist) and was not allowed to listen to anything other than Southern Gospel music, yes Amy Grant was considered contemptible in my parents home or go to theaters! However, when hubs and I turned 18, he wanted to take me to see a movie…we chose Dirty Dancing! Naive little Christian girl, a whopping 18, in a theater for the first time in my life!!! I was seriously afraid the Lord would return right then and I would be in sin and left behind!
We married in Dec of ‘88, so I do look back fondly at the ’80’s but I lived through them and have no desire to go back…even in music!

Let’s see…music…Duran Duran, Cyndi Lauper, Genesis, INXS, and Billy Idol, and Madonna.
I remember recording songs from the radio to cassette. Man, sometimes I actually miss those times…well…no, not really.

Girl I hear ya with waiting for Johnny to show up and throw on the moves with little ole’ you. What girl hasn’t wished that?
I was listening to The Carpenters, Anne Murray, Olivia Newton John (because my dad was secretly, or maybe not so secretly in love with her) and owned every album and movie she was in. I still love ALL the music I grew up listening to. Isn’t that funny how we do that?

You are funny! Hate to say it, but I was born in 1988, so I didn’t really get into the music scene
But, I did love some Backstreet Boys in the 90s!

First tape: Olivia Newton John ” Let’s Get Physical” and just FYI I am not THAT old…I got it in 3rd grade.
First CD: Tiffany and Debbie Gibson.
But if I had to say which music was most like my inner rock star I would have to say Jefferson Starship, Bon Jovi, Train, Heart, and Petra.
I have to go….I think my CD [;auer is calling me to go down memory lane.
OH, and GO VOTE!!!!

I would (and still do) listen to anything. Chicago, Poison, Whitney, (I’m not ashamed to say… Debbie Gibson). Ok, I’m a little ashamed of that one.
My best friend’s mom was OBSESSED with Dirty Dancing and we watched it all.the.time. Still love it.
Ok… here’s the truth to make you feel less alone. My mom and I used to sing in the car on the way home from church and do harmonies. Dad started saying we could be the Judd’s and started calling her Naomi and me Wynonna. He still brings that up from time to time while mom and I try really hard not to laugh at him…

Love your music choices!
I remember being so excited to get a cassette of The Jetts for my birthday one year. The first tapes that I bought with my own money were Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. I remember dancing to Michael Jackson’s Thriller albumn. I also had a 45 of Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock and Roll” that I wore out and I had every Dolly Parton album! I guess my taste in music was pretty random! LOL!

Or how about “O Mickey your so fine, your so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey.” I think I roller skated to that song.
I have to admit that I am a huge country fan! Love Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, don’t even need to go on.
So thats one reason I wanted to go to Nashville for our 10 year anniversary- Music city baby!
I am sooo excited that we were are headed up to Nashville in 2 weeks! Music City area decorated for the holidays. This is exciting!

BTW.. Am I the only one who didn’t totally dig Micheal Jackson’s Thriller in the 4th Grade? I am almost ashamed to admit I owned a shiny white glove and yes.. I could moonwalk.
Great Blog

OK, I’ll be the token bad girl here! I graduated high school in 1988. My first concert, in 1982, was Rick Springfield. But, I made up for it quickly when my aunt got me front row Motley Crue tickets in 1985! I loves me some 80’s metal, to this day. Satellite radio is the greatest for that.
