Family Night #5 – Nature Night

Our last family fun night was one we all really enjoyed and super easy… Nature Night.  We started as soon as Jett got home from school by making some caramel apples.  The boys love helping in the kitchen.  Sometimes it makes me a little crazy, but they love helping so I try to set my anal retentive personality aside and let them help.

This is my favorite photo of the evening… and it was taken by Jett.  I might just make him the family photographer!

Then we headed to the park for a hike.  We live across the street from THIS great park.  Before we started our hike I gave each of the boys a bag and told them to pick of their favorite leaves, sticks, rocks, etc.

At this point the battery in my camera died and I was not a happy camper.  Let me recap all the scenes I wasn’t able to capture with a photograph.

  • Being “tree-huggers” and hugging our favorite tree.
  • Gage singing his rendition of the ever popular song “I’m A Nut” (wish I had it on video!)
  • A huge leaf fight with Daddy!
  • Pete told the boys the listen for bears and Brewer FREAKED out.  Pete ended up carrying him the rest of the hike because he was “sceeeered”.

When we got back home the boys used the items they picked up on the hike to create art… at least Jett and Gage did.

Brewer just choose to dismantle the art cabinet, which has become his favorite past time.

For dinner we had a choice of snails or porcupines!  Thanks little nummies!

Here is Gage’s finished product. He loves art and seems to have a true knack for it.  He’s very intentional with everything he chooses to create.

Jett made a cool face which he later cut into a mask.

We finished off the evening as we started… with caramel apples.

It was a really nice and fun evening where we all got to slow down and really enjoy one another!

  10. Seriously. Will you adopt me?

    1. I soooo wish you had tree-hugger photos. I see a reenactment in your future :)

    2. I used to sing and “entertain” at my grandparents’ card club games. “I’m a Nut” was in my repritoire. As was “No Particular Place to Go,” which was totally not age appropriate and I assume that’s why it got the most laughs and requests.

    3. The porcupine and snails might be the cutest things I’ve ever seen in my life. Next to the boys, of course. :)

  11. The boys must have absolutely loved this!!! I know I would. You are an incredible mom!!!

    Blessings,
