I got a package in the mail this week from KristiApplesauce.
What I loved about this package is she wrapped it in UsWeekly Magazine pages… I have no doubt it’s because she knows that’s my guilty pleasure!
Here’s the bloggy-web behind the package.
KristiApplesauce is a missionary in South Africa. She does wonderful ministry there and tells a beautiful, but heart-wrenching, story through her blog. But she’s stateside for a couple of months visiting family and friends with a home base in Kansas City. While she’s hanging out in Kansas City some gal-bloggers decided to join her for a little shindig (I have no doubt my invite to this little festivity was somehow lost via email, because I’m sure I was really invited… maybe next time!
).
Joining KristiApplesauce was Tam from InProgress, Mandy from MandyThompson.com, Cathy Stegall from a life of perpetual transition, and Alece from Grit and Glory made a brief, but extremely memorable appearance.
The week after their shebang KristiApplesauce was suppose to visit Anne Jackson from Flowerdust.net in Nashville (Now I’m just trying to see how many blogs I can plug in this one post). I was enlisted to entertain Kristi for one entire day… and what a day I had planned, it included Gigi’s Cupcakes! But, unfortunately, that was the week which 95% of gas stations in Nashville were WITHOUT GAS (I seriously still don’t know how that happened, crazy!). So considering KristiApplesauce’s 25 hour round trip drive for a four day trip and the fact she was visiting a city which had NO GAS, the decision was made she wouldn’t be able to hit Nashville this stateside trip.
Which brings me back to the package… remember the one I mentioned four paragraphs ago?? This package was painstakingly arranged for Pete and I by Tam and Mandy. And since KristiApplesauce couldn’t’ hand deliver the package… she mailed it! But it wasn’t as easy as receiving it and opening it, this package could not be opened until I had received an email from Tam. The email included a password protected video that was so funny I almost peed my pants. But no matter how much you beg, that video will only be for my little eyes, makes me feel special having a video produced, directed, and cast for just me (and Pete too, there’s another plug).
I will say the video sent privately to us was their best video work of the week!
Originally Tam and Mandy had wanted to re-gift a box of chocolate to Pete and I… but decided re-gifting might be considered tacky. So they created a very original, yet NOT re-gifted “Date Night” box for us… take a look for yourself!
This totally original and extremely thoughtful date night package includes…
a manilla folder, Marriott Shopping magazine, two paper mugs, three coffee packages, two tea bags, a shower cap, body lotion, shampoo, mouth wash, conditioner, an Oklahoma state map, notepad and pen, hotel card key, and a privacy sign
It was quite the prize package.
So, the point of this whole story is to say how surprised I’ve been by my ability to make bloggy friends. The relationship aspect of blogging totally took me by surprise! And what a delightful surprise it has been. I can’t wait to meet some of these ladies face to face.
Tell me about a bloggy friendship you’ve made! Or tell me one blog you read that you’d love to meet the blogger behind the blog! (that last question kinda sounds a little E! True Hollywood Story-ish)

Hi. I read a few of your other posts and wanted to know if you would be interested in exchanging blogroll links?

If there’s one thing we feel strongly about, it’s blessing others in ministry… It’s a tough job. Thankless at times. So, we thought y’all could use a good laugh.
Sounds like you enjoyed it, but the truth is that we probably laughed harder and longer just putting it all together! As for that vid, thank you for understanding.

I have made some good blog friends, and I am crazy about my new friend Sara. I think I could talk and laugh with her for hours.
That’s a nice care package. They didn’t include money for a babysitter. What’s that about?

Hi, Anita! Crazy about you too
So, that has been the most fantastic thing that I would never have imagined about blogging… I have another whole community of people that I can’t wait to connect with every day. On days when I’m sick and tired I still write the blog because I can’t imagine not talking to them.
And not being able to go to church anymore, I feel like I’ve been able to be challenged and form a bit of a church community through this medium. Between Angie’s blog and the Cross Point links I’m starting to feel like I was supposed to live in Nashville and somehow would up in Iowa.

That’s awesome!! I have a dear. sweet. bloggy friend in Manitoba, Canada that I can’t wait to meet. We chat (via Live Messenger) almost every week, and I sent her a “southern gal” special for her birthday last month. (She returned the favor w/ an amazon gift card b/c she knows how much I like to read!)
I got my Mama blogging last year, and she has already met several of her online pals. We even found a family connection with one of them! She calls Mom and they chat (online) often. From GA to FL and several here in SC, she has made a ton of friends. One of them is even attending church with her now!
Isn’t it neat how we can feel SO CONNECTED to someone that we’ve never physically met?
Loved this post, Brandi. Thanks for sharing!
P.S.
While your dear hubby is in ATL, mine is where yours was last week…@Sea Coast for an IT Round Table. Just thought that was neat!

I’m not only amazed by the social aspect of blogs, but by how interconnected they are. I swear, I read one person’s blog, then link from theirs to another one that I just can’t stop reading. Before too long, I’m reading about people on one blog that I “know” from other blogs. It’s just crazy. I also never imagined that I would be ministered to on a blog, but that is what is happening . . . from Angie, to Sara, to My Charming Kids, to yours and Pete’s . . . all are speaking to my heart and wishing I lived a little closer to your neck of the woods. I would so join your bible study groups, and have to check out Beth Moore at least once in person : )

Hey Brandi…I’m in west TN and have family in Nashville and I started following your hubs blog a couple of months ago…and now I have found yours!! So…I told him that some of us from Jackson want to head to the church in January and pay a visit. I happen to work in ministry and we absolutely love going to other churchs and being church geeks….so, I’ll let you know when that all comes together.
And, I’d love to meet Angie “bring the rain” in Nashville too.
The blogging community has been amazing to me and I have been able to meet a few of my blogging BFF’s in San Antonio this past Summer. It was a blast.
So glad I found ya! Have a great night!
Blessings,
Fran

Um, you kind of already told my story in your 4 page essay. Hey thanks for the shout out. But I have had the fabulous opportunity to meet other bloggers as well along the way on this trip back to the States. We are also going to California in a few weeks and there will be a couple more there we will be hooking up with. Woo Hoo. I can’t wait. I know we missed out on face time this trip, but for reals…hopefully next time we are in the States (or seriously, if you ever come to SA hint hint) we will seal the dealeo on our friendship….but whatever, I don’t think that is even a make or break it…do you? Either way, I look forward to the possibility of it. Yup, you guys are pretty spectacular.

This was really sweet. Ive never met you and Pete, but I do pray for you often because of the great calling on your lives as you lead Cross Point and raise 3 little warriors. It touches my heart to know people haven’t forgotten about the blessing that comes when we bless others. Truly a great blog, and very thoughtful people

If i were to have a bloggy dinner party I would invite you and pete, Angie and Todd, Jess and Matthew. ( feels a little bit like I am stalking your friends.) but you guys live so far away from Mpls so i think dinner is out of the question. But Caleb I am sure would love to meet his twin! On this end, I would love to meet Rachel and Sarah from the mpls area. In some ways it seems like we already know each other. They pray for our family, celebrate with our successes, and mourn with our losses. Amazing how connections are made.

When I started blogging I had no idea what a social community it was. It’s a pretty neat thing. Like someone else said too you read one and click on a link on it and it brings you to someone you “know” already. Makes the world so much smaller.
As to who I’d like to meet? Pete, you and the boys would be nice as Pete especially has really helped me spiritually since I’ve found his blog and I’m really just starting to get into yours but find your family so down to earth and real. It’s quite nice. I’d also like to meet some of the parent’s and kiddos I have listed as friends on my daughter’s blog. They have been such a source of strength for me in her journey.
What a neat idea they did for you guys on the package! Have fun with it!

Honestly, I would love to meet someone you know pretty well. I would love to meet your husband. My wife and I read this blog and his blog everyday. I am amazed by him, and would love to hang out with him.
