Time of Reflection

Sunday evenings are usually pretty low key for me. Not this week. I revisited the joy of my high school years with a trip to Atlanta and a Poison concert. I became the 3rd wheel to 5th Street and his misses. And let’s just say the three of us had a BALL!

I should leave it at that, but we all know that I won’t. So, on the drive home at 1:00AM, I made a little list. Some items on this list are reflective of myself and some are just because….but there’s 10 total.

1. Rockstars are hard to take pictures of. They are always jumping around and banging their heads. Truly harder to photograph than my children. Exhibit A….

2. If you wear heals to a Poison concert and spend 4 hours “Unskinny Bopping” your toes will go numb, even if they are a cork wedge (which are suppose to be more comfortable, that’s a filthy lie). I still haven’t regained feeling in the toes on my right foot, seriously, but walk just fine in case you are concerned. And as a side note, probably a good thing my husband didn’t attend this concert with us, because I would have embarrassed him “Unskinny Bopping” like I was 16 again.

3. Sebastian Bach is not the hottie I remember from 1989, what a disappointment. Almost as disappointing as when I figured Aqua Net wasn’t the miracle product for my hair. “Look What the Cat Dragged In” in Exhibit B….

4. I have gone through 33 years of life and never-ever heard of a band called Dokken. Call me sheltered.

5. Does anyone know where I can find a pair of pants like these? They are necessary to my wardrobe. How cool are black velvet pants with studded silver crosses down the side? Exhibit C….

6. Sebastian Bach also spits on his audience as well as drop kicks water bottles. 5th Street can unfortunately attest to this one, so bummed I didn’t get a picture, I was too busy crawling across the couple beside me to avoid saliva.

7. I still know every single word of “Every Rose has Its Thorn.” One of my top 10 favorite songs of all time (don’t make fun). I sang it like I was 15 and had just broken up with the high school love of my life.

8.Bret Michaels shaves his armpits. Why, I’m not sure. But, bet you didn’t get that tidbit of information on Rock of Love, season 1 or 2. Exhibit D…

9. I really didn’t need my earplugs after all.

10. CC Deville is the coolest, coolest, coolest. Exhibit E….

His persona is larger than life and he’s a showman in the true essence of the word. I loved seeing him perform live.

But, the way he fills a room with humility and authenticity is truly inspiring. Thanks for the opportunity CC.

5th Street has a similar list over at his place. Check it out!

  1. [...] post info By 5th Street Categories: Music and Poison Tags: Entertainment, Music, Travel As you may have heard, I took a trip to Atlanta with Derek, Bonnie, Chris (Mrs. 5th Street) and Brandi. I drove down to Hotlanta with my wife and Brandi and man did I learn alot on the drive to and from the concert. Here is MY top 10 things I learned. Brandi has her own top ten list here! [...]

  2. How awesome is this. I laughed till I cried. If you find any pants like that could you see if there is one in my size also?

Oh, cannot believe you are giving 5th street so much love. His stats are going to start going up thanks to you and he still wont put you on his blog roll :)

  3. Looks like you had nothing but a good time and how could you resist.

  4. Awesome post!!! What fun!!!

  5. So fun! I’m happy you got to go, too!

  6. How cool. Looks like you all had a blast.

And I must say…I am inspired how you fill this blog post with your humility and selflessness, you gave 5th Street a Technorati point to help him out, when I think to myself, “What Would Jesus Do?” I am now going to think of you :)

  7. hilarious!

never heard of Dokken? really? i can’t remember a single song, but i remember the band…sorta.

sorry ’bout ur toes! hope the feeling comes back soon.

  8. LOL! HILARIOUS POST!

I LOVE the pic of Sabastian Bach with the “Look What The Cat Dragged In” quote! That was AWESOME! And what in the world is up with Brett Micheals shaving his armpits?? EW!

OK girlie! REALLY????? You have NEVER heard of DOKKEN????? Where did you grow up? Wow. Seriously. No words. Just wow. Still love ya, though.

I just went to Journey, Heart, and Cheap Trick and blogged about how old I felt. Nothing like a conert to remind you that you are getting older, eh? :)

  9. So cool to see this post. I went to a Kid Rock concert this year. It was so much fun. I did get some slack about going to a Kid Rock concert and being a “pastor’s wife”. I actually recieved the comment, “You went to a Kid Rock concert? Should pastor’s wives go to such concerts like that?” Thanks for the blog!

  10. @ Heather, thank you!!! Who doesn’t know Dokken!!!

Brandi, I would add one more to the list. If you are that close you better clap and sing along with Sebastian. He looks like he would jump off the stage and kick your butt. I was a little scared not to “go nuts” But I would have done that anyway.

  11. You are so funny :) I actually remember Aqua Net. I took 3 bottles home to Germany to share with my deprived German friends.

  12. Hillarious! Great post. Very astute (and humorous) observations. :-)

  13. It looks like CC has more makeup on then you in that picture…:)
Glad you got to go, How fun!

  14. Oh my goodness Brandi! This blog totally made me reminisce my teenage days. I soo loved the Aqua Net (hot pink cap). I am probably responsible for the hole in the ozone layer. Sorry Earth – We didn’t know back then! I’m a little sad about Sebastian Bach…he has not aged well but he has apparently not grown up either, he sounds a tad bit obnoxious! He didn’t do all of that when I saw him in the 80’s (Skid Row, Cinderella & Bon Jovi – awesome concert). I have heard of Dokken and if I’m not mistaken I have a cassette of theirs. I was/am a music chameleon. I listened to everything from country, pop, contemporary christian, hair bands and metal.

  15. Good post Brandi! So funny. Glad you got to come along!

  16. That’s how I spend every Sunday night!

  17. This is SO not right. You better believe I’ll be speaking to the BIG GUY about ALL of you!! And yes, that would be JESUS!

  18. eeewww! bret shaves his pits? that is wrong on every level known to man. wrong.

i loved aqua net back in its day. i was one of those girls who focused more on the front of the hair, nice and big and bouncy fun, and it was all flat and ratted in the back. how come no one told me i looked like a sewer rat???

  19. Glad you had fun babe. You deserved a night away from the kids.

  20. You forgot something: “the way he fills a room with humility and authenticity [AND EYELINER] is truly inspiring.”

  21. WOW – Brandi – As usual, YOU ROCK – Great Post!

PS: I’m with ya, girl – Who the heck is DOKKEN?? Never heard of him…..or them…. or whatever.

  22. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. You have the coolest life ever. No really! How fun is that? I was kinda giggling until I read the part about crawling over your peeps because he was spitting on you. That is fantastic. Okay…not because he was spitting…but because of the shoes, and the singing and the flying water bottles and the no armpit hair. Yay for such a vivid description for us. I doubt they will be making their rounds over on this side of the world…so this little taste of magic will have to do. I will be back tomorrow to read again. Thank you!

  23. P.S. Is that your Sister in the photo?

  24. umm. I only know who Sebastian Bach is because he was on the Gilmore Girls as a member of Lane’s band. He didn’t spit much on tv. I’m glad you had fun though!

  25. you ROCK, girlfriend! And you look beautiful in the pic!! What a memorable night – I’m so happy you had an awesome experience, Brandi!

  26. @ Emily Rose, that cracks me up about the sister comment the drunk groupie said backstage.

    BA

  27. You hit the nail on the head! That was a hilarious rendition of the evening’s memories! You forgot to mention the “drunk groupie” that was backstage with us. I will now have to go read my husband’s “top 10″ list (yes, I read yours first and will pay later).

@ 5th Street Honey, you aren’t calling ME the “drunk groupie” are you? She was a TRIP… or on one.

  28. Opps, I meant to say “the drunk groupie said THAT backstage” She was thinking that Chris and Brandi where sisters, too.

AND YOU READ PARIS WILSON’S blog before MINE???? You are sleeping with the Dog tonight!!!

  29. I laughed so hard as I read your “Every Rose has it’s Thorn”comment. I had a flashback to CCHS school cafeteria dances where the headbangers were dancing to “Paradise City” and I was just waiting for that song to come on so I could dance with Todd Noffisnger. hehe Remember those days?

  30. Yup even better the 2nd and 3rd time around.

  31. Awesome Brandi — looks like it was a major blast :)

  32. that post is hilarious especially about your toes or maybe you ‘unskinny bopping!” :) Fun memories.
Oh, I am digging those black cross pants too! I am a cross shirt girl and those pants would come in handy.

  33. Wow! I love your blog!! I’m bummed I hadn’t stopped by before. I loved your pictures and comments. Eww..on the shaved armpits and spit.

Can’t wait to read more! I’m def. adding you to my blog reader. Jen

  34. [...] As most of you know a few weeks ago I attended a true Rock-n-Roll concert… and had a ball. I blogged about it. The majority of you thought it was cool. But, there’s always one…. [...]
