Summer in Kentucky

We’re in the bluegrass state for a few days… also known as God’s Country!

My favorite thing about Kentucky in the summer (besides my family, of course) is fresh corn on the cob!  Oh my stars, there’s nothing like it!  I ate three ears last night for supper, well, two of my own and then finished off all of the kids, so that adds up to at least another ear!

My dear boys must have inherited my adoration for the stuff.  I think it is the only vegetable all three of them love, unless you count ketchup as a vegetable!

By the way, our pediatrician totally counts ketchup as a vegetable!

  1. Hey My name is Dani and I am 18. I came across your blog from Angie’s leading me to your husbands and your husbands leading me here. lol. I LOVE blogs. I search for hours through blogs. It’s an addiction really. :) Anyway..not long ago she posted a blog answering questions that people had been asking her and she posted where she went to church and the website. I was so excited to see that we share the same belief. I LOVE to sing and know that God has called me to do that and have the desire to move to Nashville one day. So most people spend several weeks visiting church after church before they find one they like. But I think I have already found one and I haven’t even moved yet. lol. I am so excited and can’t wait to visit their one day. Anyway…just wanted to say HI.. I have enjoyed reading a few of your posts tonight. I will be coming back. :)

  2. Yes, ketchup is a vegetable from birth until 10 years old, after 10 it magically transforms into a sauce, weird I know…has something to do with Science.

My parents used to live in Glasgow, KY. My dad worked at a plant in the area. While living there he started serving as a bi-vocational pastor at a struggling church, they didn’t like new ideas, so they are still struggling, alone :) – It was funny because there was a paper there that literally told everything! “So and So went to So and So’s house after church Sunday, they ate pork chops”…weird! I also have a Youth Pastor friend in Hopkinsville, KY.

  3. What a great site this is. I am a fan and simply love the way it looks. http://www.godzillachai.blogspot.com

  6. OMG I love corn on the cob. My family is from West Virginia, so I love going home and having homemade , fresh grown everything!!!!! Enjoy!!!

  7. Awww… I am jealous that you’re there! I was missing Kentucky very badly this past week and thought about taking off to go and see my sister :) I hope you and the boys are having fun with your family! Have a safe trip!

  8. AHHH, CORN:) You will have to come visit me sometime….seeings how I live in the Corn State (Iowa). Yea. We love corn. A lot. And, ketchup….totally a veggie!

OK….more than slightly, jealous you are in Kentucky!! I have ALWAYS wanted to visit Kentucky. I did a report on it when I was in 4th grade and have wanted to go ever since. I bet it’s beautiful there. Please take pics to share:) Yea. Like you wouldn’t.

  11. okay, we have the same pediatrician…I’m going to have to check with him on that ketchup vegetable. :)

  12. I hope y’all are having fun! That picture makes me VERY excited to cook up corn on the cob I got from the farmers market the other day :)

  13. Oh my — I have to admit corn on the cob gives me chills. Love corn– Hate the cob.

  14. I have been home to KY once this month and my parents have driven to TN for the last four weekends. Needless to say, I have racked-up on the homegrown veggies. I could live on cucumbers and tomatoes during this time of year……and the corn! Oh the corn!

  15. im weird and cut the corn off the cob. is that wrong? would they shoot me in the south for that?

  16. Kind of random but sort of on topic… I recently broke my tooth off trying to rip an envelope open (I have veneres on front two teeth [sp?]). My brother suggested I fix with super glue. Which I did and it worked. But, the next day when I went to the dentist, I got in HUGE trouble. Apparently there is some concern over this [understatement :0)]). Anywho, he told me to never do that again and to ALWAYS cut my corn off the cob. He went from envelopes to cob. Kind of funny.

    Blessings,
    Roxx

PS: Happened to glance up at Tam’s comment. Tam, my dentist would be proud of you.

  17. I think I need to get your pediatrician…my kids hate veggies for the most part — but they do love sweet corn & ketchup (but not together thankfully :)

  18. Hey Brandi!
I hope you are having a blast in KY! I saw where Pete was in the DR. We went there on a mission trip in April and it was incredible!
Be safe. Talk to ya soon.
Our guys connected by the way.

  19. Hello Brandi,
I found your blog through Heather G.’s blog. I was reading about your trip home and my eyes stopped on the word Fredonia. My family is from Walnut Grove and Creswell. Did you and your boys make it home for the big parade in Fredonia this month. They are already planning for next year and hope it is bigger and better.

  20. Brandi,
I seem to have lost your email. I was wondering if you could help me. I have read your posts about how much you love your camera, I have asked for a compact camera for my birthday. I have the big sony dig but for just going out it is to big, I want something that will fit in my purse. I was wondering if you had any suggestions. I can’t wait to try the cresents and milky ways.
