Each morning I am lucky enough to wake up beside him….
Then I head downstairs to spend some time with him…..
Yes, I have a minor obsession with the Today Show, as well as with Matt Lauer.
There is something about his corporate look mixed with his appealing personality that keeps me tuning in morning after morning.
My Today Show obsession goes back many years. I remember watching with my mom each morning when I was in middle school. That was back when Jane Pauley and Bryant Gumbal were the co-anchors.
When we first married, this was a big issue. Pete was a Good Morning America man, which I might add, was NEVER revealed in pre-marital counseling! I couldn’t believe my eyes the first morning of our honeymoon when he tuned in to GMA with Charlie Gibson and Joan Lunden. Who was this man I had married??? Had I made a mistake in not checking his morning show preferences earlier?? It took a few months to indoctrinate him, but he finally conceded that Today Show was the better of the morning broadcasts.
The interest I have in Matt is not a secret to those who know me well. In fact, I have several autographed head shots brought back from Matt by Cross Point musicians who have played The Plaza with country acts.
But to tell the truth, I love the whole Today Show team; Ann, Al, Meredith, and Natalie. Their quick wit and relational energy keep me tuning in morning after morning.
One day I’ll make it to New York and head straight to Rockefeller Center to watch a live taping. Make sure you’re watching for me because my sign will say… “I’ll leave my husband for Matt Lauer.” We all know I’d never actually follow through, but I see that as my best chance of actually meeting him!
What is your morning show of choice, GMA or Today Show?

Today show for sure
nothing compares

Matt has always been my crush for as long as I can remember. There was one time when a friend was going to set me up with a friend with hers and I told her I was waiting for Matt Lauer and she said what!!???? And I’m What? and she laughed out loud when she told me her friend’s name was Pat Lauer.
I guess you had to be there.

The Today show all the way. I also used to watch the Today show in Middle school and remember crying when Bryant Gumble left and Matt took over. I thought he never would be as good. I was wrong. I think I also cried when Katie Couric left (who I loved). I still think Ann should have been given the job that Meredith was given. But, we don’t always get what we want.

The Today Show! I think it’s one of those things that bring back my childhood because I would sit in front of the TV watching The Today Show while my mom would do my hair. I now continue the tradition with my daughter (until she asks if she can watch Arthur). I even use the same brush that my mom used on me (don’t worry… it’s washed every few days).

GMA…Pete what happened??? My husband is a devote Fox News hound in the AM but when he isn’t home or I get the chance to switch I am faithful to my GMA group. I will confess, I have tried to watch The Today Show and it is not bad but something keeps drawing me to Robin, Sam, Diane and Chris.

I like GMA and part of that reason is my loathing of all things Katie Couric. I know she is not on the Today Show anymore but I watch GMA before going to work. I like Diane Sawyer and think they give you a more informed non-biased take on the news of the day.

You crack me up! After reading the first line of your blog today, I was like oh this is going to be funny!
I would agree. There is something about Matt. He is a cutie! I remember when he came to the Today show. I started watching right when Gumble left. Today show all the way!!!
Let me know when you head to the Big Apple. I want to be looking for the sign! Maybe if I go with you in a big, sequence Texas cowboy hat, it will help lure Matt to you!

Today all the way!!! Did you see the pic from a few years ago of him at the beach with his kids?? Total eye candy. Can you imagine Charlie Gibson or Harry Smith on a beach? Not so much. I like the whole gang, I was just thinking this am how cute Natalie Morales is pregnant and why didn’t I look that good EVER.

Ok just to admit it to all the blog world I am spoiled and I know that, I am rarely up to watch the morning news programs anymore because my wonderful hubby gets the kids up and off to school each day. That being said if I do watch it is GMA hands down.
But more often then not I don’t even watch that I watch Sportscenter, yes you read that right, Sportscenter. My hubby loves that he married a woman that willingly watches football on Sunday afternoon and Sportscenter on a daily basis.

I loved the Today show until Meredith came along. She grates on my last nerve! For those of you who grew up in Middle Tennessee, you will remember the Ralph Emery Show. I woke each morning hoping they would do the chalk toss. This is also where Snowbird originated, so you can imagine the enthusiasm we had every morning during the winter to see if Sumner County had snowflakes in it or if we were doomed to go to school.

Oh I can’t get out of bed until the Today Show is on in my room.
I went to NYC for the Billy Graham crusade a few years ago and on our very last day there, another one of the chaperones and I were running/sprinting to the bus that was about to leave us for the airport and we literally ran smack into Matt Lauer! The other lady I was with was probably as big of a fan as you are and she screamed bloody murder when she realized it was him. Thankfully he didn’t sue us for flattening him and for causing partial hearing loss…but took a picture with us instead.

I am DYING over this post because Matthew and I have the SAME story. I am OCD in love with The Today Show. When we got married, Matthew hated it. Hated Matt. Hated Katie. But slowly, he converted. Now I think he likes Matt as much as me – maybe more. lol. Although, I don’t care for the daily politics rehash that happens almost every morning from 7-7:20.
We are kindred spirits.

If I had to choose, The Today’s Show…but really I’m hooked on Fox and Friends (you know…Alisyn, Brian and the gang) and then I love Megyn Kelly and Bill Hemmer on America’s Newsroom! Thankfully, my hubs and I share this love:)

Well, I make the 7th vote for GMA, I’m going to agree with Giant Idiot on this one, I am not a fan of Katie Couric, I heard an interview of her’s, one time, and I just hated the questions she asked, they just sounded ridiculous. Growing up, I’ve LOVED GMA, and one day, I woke up to the Today show, and because it’s an hour longer than GMA, I was an hour off, and almost late for an interview! Now, I’ve always been an ABC person, but I only watch Charlie Gibson on ABCNews and GMA, everything else is NBC. I think the today show is too long though, GMA is perfect in length.

OK. I know I’m not in the mix here, but I watch Joyce Meyers in the AM. I haven’t watched GMA or the Today show in FOREVER. Well, I think the last time I watched GMA Joan Lunden was pregnant with baby #2. Yea. It’s been awhile.
Matt Lauer…..eye candy:)

TODAY SHOW is my jam in the mornings. I turn it on first thing and I now know when they are making their transitions into each 30 minute segment which means that I need to get moving when the 8:30 segment hits! lol!
I am a big Meredith fan as well. I love her composure on camera.

So does NO ONE like the Morning Show on CBS? I know, I know, they are always last in the ratings but I think they do a good job. I like ALL of the morning show crews which keeps me channel switching all morning. Some of the things they cover……….boring!!
I also LOVE Mike + Mike in the Morning on ESPN 2. They’re also on my XM radio, channel 140!!!

BEST blog I’ve read all night. Rock on Today Show gal! I’ve surfed between the big three for many years…(although my public loyalty was always with cable news…CNN’s pathetic and poorly rated morning show)…my real true morning fascination and obsession has always, and will always be the Today Show. I still yearn from the days of Jane Pauley, my idol.

Ah, your blog made me sad. The Today Show was my routine before having kids. I knew Matt, Katie, Al & Anne so well. Would even talk to Jim about them – Katie’s husband dying, Anne’s hairstyles, Al & his weight struggles, Matt & his kids, etc. Used to drive him nuts. In fact, I remember sitting on the couch in my bathrobe watching the Today Show when 9/11 happened and Matt kept going to the Twin Towers talking about a weird accident before we knew what really happened. And I loved Where in the World is Matt Lauer! Anyway, those days are long gone since we’re now in cartoon-world every morning. Maybe Matt will still be in the anchor seat when my kids start school and I can reclaim the TV.
